As I mentioned in my last article, I should have passed B2 less than 6 months after I passed B1. However, due to the COVID-19 and the failure in reading part, it took me more time than I expected. In the following paragraphs, I would like to talk about how I made it and what I have learned.

Adjust your Mindset

The first step is to make your goal clear: get the certificate, instead of being fluent in every part. (though sometimes they mean the same things)

I know this sounds ridiculous. But your purpose of taking the USD195 test is to get that piece of paper not showing other people how well you can use the targeted language.

Mindset matters. Or you will be stuck in the painful preparation process.

Get to know the “Game”

Do you know how they test you in every module? What are the topics that Goethe-Institut favors? Though sometimes language proficiency tests can present certain degrees of your abilities, there are still some aspects that can’t be measured by the exams. This is to say, if you know how to play the game, you can get high scores.

Goethe-Institut Proficiency Test prefers topics including:

  • environment protection (Umweltschutz)
